Belgrave Hall started life around 1709, built by Edmund Cradock, a 'nouveau riche' hosiery merchant. It is said that it took around four years to complete, unfortunately Edmund died soon after this. The Simons family were the next owners of the Hall until around 1767 when it passed into the hands of the Vann's. They ran a thriving hosiery business from Belgrave and were known to be a wealthy family, giving to local charities including Leicester's first free school. In 1845, John Ellis who was also a wealthy businessman, purchased the property. Ellis was also the man who brought the railways to Leicester in 1833.

December 1998 two mysterious, when luminous figures were caught on the security cameras at Belgrave Hall (see below) it became the ghost capital of the world. National and international media attention, from all four corners of the globe, focused on the Hall and the mysterious shapes including a visit from Derek Acorah and the ISPR team. Members of staff have also experienced paranormal activity first hand. A gardener witnessed, what he described as 'an eerie lady, around 50 years old, in a terracotta-coloured dress and black boots'. Other reported activity has been odours of cooking and mysterious footsteps heard on the upper floors. The Most Haunted television team completed a celebrity investigation with Vic Reeves and Nancy Sorrell.  Members of the team also claimed to have seen a white apparition walking in the garden area and Vic was seen chasing an unseen entity around the house!  It is going to be a real privilege for Paranormal Tours to host our first investigation at this famous paranormal landmark, lets hope we also capture some unexplained activity when we investigate Belgrave Hall.
